  • Posted on June 03, 2020
United Community Bank is pleased to announce the promotion of Brian Brooks to President of the Athens market. In this role, Brooks will oversee growth and operations for the bank in the market while leading all four branch locations. Brooks succeeds Jay Staines, former President and CEO of First Madison Bank & Trust, who retired after decades spent in the banking industry. Staines led First Madison through the merger with United Community Bank in August 2019.

“Brian is the perfect candidate to assume this leadership role and serve the Athens community,” said Rich Bradshaw, Chief Banking Officer of United Community Bank. “He understands the importance of community banking and has dedicated the majority of his career to the people of Athens. We congratulate Jay for reaching this milestone and look forward to Brian’s guidance in the market.”

Brooks has more than 20 years of banking experience. Prior to joining United, he served as a Vice President, Athens Market Executive for Regions Bank. He also worked as a Principal Business Banking Officer for Wells Fargo in Athens. Brooks is a graduate of the University of Georgia.

“I’m excited to take on an expanded role with United Community Bank,” said Brooks. “I’ve been given the opportunity to further serve an incredible organization and am honored to lead this talented team of bankers.”

Brooks is dedicated to his community, serving as a member of the Athens Rotary Club and previous Board Director for the United Way of Northeast Georgia, Athens Area Habitat for Humanity and the Jeannette Rankin Women’s Scholarship Fund. He and his wife Amanda have three children with whom they enjoy traveling, attending live music shows and spending time outdoors.
