Protect Yourself from Fraudulent Calls, Texts, and More

Scammers could impersonate bank employees in an attempt to obtain personal information and access to accounts. These fraudsters are sophisticated and may even spoof our phone number, making it look like the call is coming from your financial institution.

Please remember: United Community will never call, text, or email you to ask for your account number, online banking user ID or password, secure access code, PIN, or any other sensitive information.
 

Personal Banking Customers


We encourage you to stay vigilant and follow these tips to protect yourself:
 
  1. Hang up and call us directly: If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately and contact your banker or our contact center at 1-800-UCBANK1 (1-800-822-2651).
  2. Don’t share personal information: Never give out your account details, digital banking login credentials, secure access code, passwords, or other personal information over the phone, email, or text.
  3. Be cautious with unexpected messages: If you receive an email or text message claiming to be from United Community that asks you to click a link or provide information, contact us to verify its legitimacy.
  4. Set up alerts and notifications: Manage and set custom alerts within online banking and the United mobile app to help quickly detect any unauthorized activity.


Treasury Management Customers


These fraud rings often target businesses with treasury management services, aiming to collect sensitive information under the appearance of a legitimate request. If customers comply, they may inadvertently allow the scammers access to accounts, leading to unauthorized transactions.

Please remember: United Community will never call, text, or email you asking for account numbers, login credentials, or other confidential information.

As a user of treasury management services, United may contact you in certain instances in an effort to safeguard your accounts. Examples may include ACH fraud alerts, wire transfers, and emails requesting changes to services or limits such as ACH, remote deposit capture (RDC), or wires.
 
We urge you and your team to follow these tips to protect your accounts:
 
  1. Verify caller identity: If you receive a call claiming to be from United Community, hang up and contact your banker or Treasury Management Support directly at 1-866-270-6100.
  2. Safeguard login credentials: Ensure your team never shares passwords, account numbers, or token information over the phone, email, or text.
  3. Use dual control and approval workflows: Strengthen security by implementing dual approval processes for transactions and administrative changes.
  4. Require tokens: Add extra protection for ACH and wire payments by using tokens to generate a temporary code as an extra layer of security.
  5. Train your team: Educate your staff to recognize phishing attempts, fraudulent requests, and other suspicious activities that could compromise your accounts.
  6. Monitor account activity daily: Regularly check your accounts and set up alerts and notifications within online banking to help quickly detect any unusual transactions or unauthorized activity.
